GILBERT, Ariz. - Connecticut enters the 2017 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship this weekend as the No. 1 overall seed after completing an unbeaten regular season that also puts the Huskies at the top of the final ranking for the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Coaches Poll on Tuesday.
The Huskies won the Big East Tournament over the weekend to enter the NCAA tourney with a perfect 19-0 record. The other three seeded teams in the NCAA tourney follow the Huskies in the ranking, with Duke at No. 2, Michigan at No. 3 and North Carolina at No. 4 to mimic the seeds each squad holds for the postseason. Virginia filled out the top five in the final poll.
Penn State came in at No. 6, followed by Delaware at No. 7, Louisville at No. 8, Maryland at No. 9 and Northwestern at No. 10. Next up was No. 11 Princeton, No. 12 Wake Forest, No. 13 Syracuse, No. 14 Boston College and No. 15 Saint Joseph's. The top 13 teams in the final ranking all were selected to the NCAA Tounament.
The poll continued with No. 16 Stanford, No. 17 Harvard, No. 18 James Madison, No. 19 William & Mary, No. 20 Boston University, No. 21 Rutgers, No. 22 Albany, No. 23 Liberty, No. 24 Iowa and No. 25 Maine.

The 2017 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship begins with the first round on Wednesday as Boston University takes on Fairfield and Stanford faces Miami. Action continues with the second round and quarterfinals over the weekend, with the semifinals and championship set to be held at the University of Louisville on Nov. 17 and Nov. 19.
