CHANDLER, Ariz. - Four undefeated teams remain in the nation, and three of them occupy the top spots in Tuesday's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Coaches Poll.
Connecticut moved up one spot to take the No. 1 ranking with 1,129 points and 28 first-place votes, while Penn State inched up one place to come in at No. 2 with 1,083 points and 13 first-place votes. Both the Huskies and Nittany Lions are off to 5-0 starts that feature four wins against ranked opponents. Syracuse rises two places to No. 3 on the strength of a 7-0 start where the Orange have yet to allow a goal this season. No. 4 Duke and No. 5 Virginia fill out the top five.
Delaware remains put at No. 6, followed by No. 7 North Carolina, No. 8 Michigan, No. 9 Maryland and No. 10 Boston College. Coming in at No. 11 is Louisville, followed by No. 12 Stanford, No. 13 James Madison, No. 14 Northwestern and No. 15 Princeton. The rest of the top 20 features No. 16 Wake Forest, No. 17 Harvard, No. 18 William & Mary, No. 19 Iowa and No. 20 Boston University, while rounding out the poll are No. 21 Albany, No. 22 American, No. 23 Saint Joseph's and both Pacific and Rutgers at No. 24. William & Mary and Saint Joseph's enter the rankings for the first time this season.
Twelve games between top-25 squads highlight this week's schedule, with six of those set for Sunday. The week will conclude that day with No. 1 Connecticut hosting No. 20 Boston University, No. 2 Penn State against No. 6 Delaware, No. 3 Syracuse welcoming No. 24 Rutgers, No. 4 Duke at home against No. 15 Princeton, No. 7 North Carolina against No. 13 James Madison and No. 10 Boston College at No. 18 William & Mary. The rest of the ranked action includes No. 24 Pacific at No. 12 Stanford on Thursday, No. 19 Iowa at No. 2 Penn State, No. 11 Louisville at No. 4 Duke and No. 18 William & Mary at No. 5 Virginia on Friday and No. 16 Wake Forest at No. 3 Syracuse and No. 10 Boston College at No. 7 North Carolina in Atlantic Coast Conference action on Saturday.
