GILBERT, Ariz. - A victory over the defending national champion on Sunday has solidified Connecticut's hold on the No. 1 ranking in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Coaches Poll announced on Tuesday.
The Huskies defeated then-No. 5 Delaware 1-0 in overtime on Sunday to push their record on the season to 9-0, remaining the last unbeaten team in the nation. UConn accumulated 1,146 points and 44 first-place votes to come in at No. 1 this week.
Teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference took three of the next four spots in the poll. That included No. 2 Duke and No. 3 Virginia, with Penn State at No. 4 and North Carolina at No. 5. The rest of the top 10 featured No. 6 Michigan, No. 7 Syracuse, No. 8 Delaware, No. 9 Boston College and No. 10 Northwestern, which rose four spots this week.
Stanford came in at No. 11, followed by Louisville at No. 12, Wake Forest at No. 13, Harvard at No. 14 and Maryland at No. 15. The next five spots were occupied by No. 16 Princeton, No. 17 James Madison, No. 18 Albany and both Rutgers and William & Mary at No. 19. The rest of the poll included No. 21 Saint Joseph's, No. 22 Boston University, No. 23 Pacific, No. 24 Iowa and No. 25 American.

Five of the seven games between ranked opponents this week will take place on Friday, with that slate featuring No. 2 Duke at No. 9 Boston College, No. 3 Virginia at No. 13 Wake Forest, No. 15 Maryland at No. 6 Michigan, No. 7 Syracuse at No. 12 Louisville and No. 19 Rutgers at No. 10 Northwestern. Sunday's schedule includes No. 2 Duke at No. 22 Boston University and No. 16 Princeton at No. 7 Syracuse.
The next Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll will be announced on Tuesday, October 3.
