GILBERT, Ariz. – Stonehill junior Kacie Smith and Shippensburg freshman Jazmin Petrantonio were named the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Regional Players of the Year on Tuesday.
Smith claimed the honor in the East Region for the second straight year, while Petrantonio was selected in the Atlantic Region.
East Region Player of the Year: Kacie Smith, Stonehill (Jr., F)
Smith had another outstanding season as she repeated as the Northeast 10 Player of the Year and also earned a first-team selection on the Longstreth/NFHCA Division II All-American Team for the second straight year. She now receives her second straight Longstreth/NFHCA Division II East Region Player of the Year honor. Smith had an incredible campaign as she set the NCAA Division II single-season record with 41 goals in 2017 and finished with a conference record 99 points. Smith led all NCAA divisions in both goals and points. She also led Division II and set a school record with 17 assists.
Atlantic Region Player of the Year: Jazmin Petrantonio, Shippensburg (Fr., F/M)
Petrantonio made a huge impact in her first season as she helped lead Shippensburg to a repeat national title. The freshman was named to the first team on the Longstreth/NFHCA Division II All-American squad as she finished the year with 12 goals and a conference-leading 12 assists. She set an NCAA Division II single-game record with six assists in a 6-1 win over Millersville on Sept. 12. Petrantonio was named the Freshman of the Year in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
