GILBERT, Ariz. - Shippensburg beat a pair of top-10 squads on the road last week and secured its hold on the No. 1 ranking in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Coaches Poll on Tuesday.
The Raiders posted a 3-2 win at West Chester on Tuesday before notching a 3-1 victory at Slippery Rock on Saturday for victories over teams that shared the No. 5 ranking in last week's poll. Shippensburg has a 10-1 record and a perfect 5-0 mark in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Raiders captured 213 points and 18 first-place votes to claim the top spot in the poll.
The next three places in the poll remained unchanged with East Stroudsburg at No. 2, Saint Anselm at No. 3 and LIU Post at No. 4. Millersville was the big mover in the poll, going up five places to grab the No. 5 ranking. The rest of the poll included No. 6 Pace, No. 7 Limestone, No. 8 West Chester, No. 9 Stonehill and No. 10 Merrimack, with the latter two squads joining the ranking this week.

There are three games between ranked opponents this week, beginning with No. 5 Millersville at No. 2 East Stroudsburg on Wednesday. Friday's action includes No. 10 Merrimack at No. 4 LIU Post and No. 7 Limestone at No. 8 West Chester. Also, top-ranked Shippensburg hosts Messiah, the No. 1 team in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III Coaches Poll, on Wednesday. Both squads are the defending national champions as well as current No. 1 in their respective divisions.
The next Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II Coaches Poll will be announced on Tuesday, October 17. The poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches, and has no bearing on selection to the 2017 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship.
