University of Carolina takes top ranking in Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll

GILBERT, Ariz. — The University of North Carolina moved into the top spot of the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll this week after a two-win weekend over Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponent, the University of Louisville (No. 8), and the University of California-Berkeley. The University of Connecticut Huskies dropped into the number two spot, the University of Maryland stayed at number three and Duke University remained in fourth. Princeton University took the fifth spot to round out the top five.

Notably, Rutgers University (No. 17) jumped six spaces after a two-win weekend over Princeton (No. 5) and Cornell. Old Dominion University (No. 15) also moved up six spaces after their two victories over the University of Virginia (No. 7) and the University of Richmond. Both Rutgers and ODU remain undefeated.

Excluding the Ivy League, the rest of the NCAA Division I teams will join the ACC in conference play this weekend. There will be 10 matchups between top-25 teams over Saturday and Sunday. The next Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll will be announced on Tuesday, September 18. The poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches and has no bearing on selection to the 2018 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship.
