West Chester University stays in first place for another week

GILBERT, Ariz. — No. 1 West Chester University finished last week with two important conference wins to improve to 9-1 this season and garner 212 points, putting them in first place on the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll. Last Tuesday, the Golden Rams beat No. 5 Shippensburg University, 4-2, then on Saturday, beat Mercyhurst University 3-2.

Following West Chester in the poll is No. 2 East Stroudsburg University — the Warriors also had a 2-0 week, beating No. 9 Bloomsburg University and Slippery Rock University. In third, with a 9-1 record, is Merrimack College and in fourth, touting a 10-1 record, is Pace University. Rounding out the top-five are Shippensburg University and Stonehill College, who are tied with 116 points each.

Today, No. 8 Millersville University will travel to No. 5 Shippensburg for a 4:00 p.m. conference contest. Be sure to follow the results of this game and all Division II field hockey matches throughout the week on nfhca.org.

The next Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll will be announced on Tuesday, October 23. The poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches and has no bearing on selection to the 2018 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship.
