Undefeated University of North Carolina stays in first place for another week

GILBERT, Ariz. — After another 2-0 weekend, the University of North Carolina Tar Heels took command of the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll with another first-place week. No. 1 North Carolina was victorious over two ranked opponents, winning contests with No. 11 Boston College, 4-1, and No. 5 University of Connecticut, 2-1.

The Tar Heels are followed in the poll by No. 2 University of Maryland who also had two wins on the weekend over conference opponents Indiana University and No. 7 University of Iowa. Rounding out the top five are No. 3 Princeton University, No. 4 Duke University and No. 5 University of Connecticut. The Penn State University Nittany Lions came in sixth place this week, with fellow Big Ten teams University of Iowa and University of Michigan tying at seventh place with 899 points apiece.

This coming weekend promises to be another exciting one in Division I field hockey, as all teams work to secure a space in their conference's postseason. You can follow the results of all Division I contests on nfhca.org.

The next Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll will be announced on Tuesday, October 23, 2018. The poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches and has no bearing on selection to the 2018 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship.
