Tar Heels are a unanimous first-place selection in week eight

GILBERT, Ariz. — For the first time this season, the University of North Carolina was unanimously selected for first place in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll — the Tar Heels received 51 first-place votes. Their domination of the poll comes after their 5-2 win over No. 3 Duke University, keeping their record at a perfect 16-0 going into the last week of the regular season.

Following the Tar Heels are the No. 2 University of Maryland Terrapins who currently tout a 16-2 record and earned a share of the Big Ten Conference title this weekend with a win over No. 22 Northwestern University — the Terps share the Big Ten title with No. 8 University of Michigan.

Seven top-25 matchups are scheduled for this week, three of which will take place in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals — seven of the nine teams in the tournament are ranked in the poll this week. In non-conference games, No. 13 Boston College will have a tough regular season finale, as they take on No. 6 Harvard University on Thursday and No. 24 Boston University on Sunday in an annual cross-city contest.

The next Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll will be announced on Tuesday, October 30, 2018. The poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches and has no bearing on selection to the 2018 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship.
