Messiah tops Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll in final week

GILBERT, Ariz. — In the final week of voting, Messiah College took first place on the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll. Messiah's record currently stands at 19-0. The Middle Atlantic Conference-Commonwealth champions will host the second and third rounds of the 2018 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship tournament — their first game will take place on November 10, when they will play the winner of Endicott College's and Saint Joseph's of Maine's first-round contest.

This week No. 2 Middlebury College, New England Small College Athletic Conference champions, and No. 3 Rowan University, New Jersey Athletic Conference champions, were separated by just one point. Middlebury finished the year at number two after spending most of the season ranked first, while Rowan climbed steadily up the ranks starting at number 15 and finishing third. Both teams will host the second and third rounds of the NCAA Championship tournament.

Rounding out the top five are No. 4 Tufts University and Liberty League champions, No. 5 Vassar College. These teams will serve as NCAA host institutions as well.

The Division III NCAA Championship tournament will begin tomorrow, November 7 with first-round games happening across the country. Find updated brackets and more information on the tournament on ncca.com. The FieldTurf Division III College Scoreboard, hosted by nfhca.org, will also remain updated throughout the postseason.

The poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches and has no bearing on selection to the 2018 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship.
