Brotzge, Sabbagh named NFHCA Division III Weekly Award winners

GILBERT, Ariz. — Marcella Sabbagh, freshman defender from No. 12 Christopher Newport University, and Caroline Brotzge, senior forward from Centre College, have been named this week's NFHCA Division III Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.

NFHCA Division III Defensive Player of the Week

Marcella Sabbagh, Christopher Newport University, Fr., Defender (Lewes, Delaware)

Sabbagh played an important role in No. 12 Christopher Newport University's 2-0 weekend — she anchored a defense that allowed just two goals in tight games against DePauw University and No. 8 Johns Hopkins University. On top of her impressive defensive performance against JHU — where she made two defensive saves — Sabbagh also contributed on the attack, assisting on one of the Captains' two goals in their 2-1 victory.

Sabbagh was named the Capital Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

NFHCA Division III Offensive Player of the Week

Caroline Brotzge, Centre College, Sr., Forward (Louisville, Kentucky)

Brotzge tallied nine points on three goals and three assists in Centre College's 2-0 weekend — her performance helped the Colonels stay undefeated at 4-0 and earn 55 points in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll. On Saturday, in Centre's 12-0 victory over Oberlin College, Brotzge scored twice and added an assist, then on Sunday, she had a hand in all three of Centre's unanswered goals against The College of Wooster, scoring once and assisting twice.

Brotzge was named the Southern Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week.

Honorable Mentions

Riley Goulet, Westfield State University, So., Goalkeeper (Marion, Massachusetts)

Goulet totaled 10 saves in a pair of shutout wins for Westfield State University. She posted six saves in a 3-0 win over Simmons College before making four stops in a 1-0 win over Rivier University.

Goulet was named the Little East Conference Goalie of the Week.

Rachel Hopkins, Worcester State University, Sr., Midfielder/Forward (Chelmsford, Massachusetts)

Hopkins helped Worcester State University stay undefeated last week by scoring four goals and one assist including two game-winning goals against Wellesley College and Mount Holyoke College.

Hopkins was named the Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Danielle Johnson, Goucher College, Sr., Forward/Midfielder (Salisbury, Maryland)

Johnson posted five goals and two assists for 12 points in a pair of 8-0 wins over the weekend — she tallied her first collegiate hat trick and added an assist against Southern Virginia University on Saturday. The Goucher College senior then added two goals and an assist in the victory against Ferrum College on Sunday.

Johnson was named the Landmark Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Jordan Segrave, Muhlenberg College, Sr., Goalkeeper, (Roxbury, New Jersey)

Segrave recorded a pair of shutouts to keep Muhlenberg College undefeated and unscored-upon so far this season. She stopped four shots in a 2-0 shutout of DeSales University and made five saves in a 1-0 overtime win at Elizabethtown College.

Segrave was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
