Mitchell, Nielsen named Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Division II Weekly Award winners

GILBERT, Ariz. — Claire Nielsen, freshman goalkeeper from No. 1 West Chester University, and Maddie Mitchell, sophomore midfielder/forward from Belmont Abbey College, have been named this week's Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Division II Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Claire Nielsen, West Chester University, Fr., Goalkeeper (Wescosville, Pennsylvania)

Nielsen posted three shutouts in No. 1 West Chester University's three games last week. Last Wednesday, against then-No. 1 Millersville University, Nielsen recorded three shots to keep the Marauders off the board and propel her team to a 2-0 win. She then turned away three shots in the 5-0 win over Slippery Rock University on Saturday and had another shutout performance against University of New Haven on Sunday, when the Golden Rams won 6-0.

Nielsen was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week. This is Nielsen's second Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Division II Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.

Maddie Mitchell, Belmont Abbey College, So., Midfielder/Forward (Kitchener, Ontario)

Mitchell tallied nine points last week for Belmont Abbey College. In Tuesday's 6-0 conference win against Converse College, Mitchell scored twice and assisted once. Then on Saturday at Newberry College, Mitchell netted one goal and assisted on two others to help the Crusaders secure the 4-3 conference victory as well as place at the top of the South Atlantic Conference standings —they are currently tied for first with Queens University of Charlotte.

Mitchell was named South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
