Hoffmann, Murphy named NFHCA Division I National Players of the Week

BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Graduate-student midfielder from No. 7 Syracuse University, Carolin Hoffmann, and fifth-year forward from No. 1 University of Iowa, Maddy Murphy, have been named this week’s NFHCA Division I Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.

NFHCA Division I Defensive Player of the Week

 

Carolin Hoffmann, No. 7 Syracuse University, Gr., Midfielder (Mulhelm an der Ruhr, Germany)

  • Led the defensive effort in Cuse’s shutout win over No. 9 University of North Carolina
  • Her midfield play slowed a UNC offense that entered the game averaging 4.56 points per game
  • Contributed on the Orange’s attack, registering a goal in Friday’s game against UNC
  • Provided another solid defensive performance in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Columbia University, holding the Lions to only one shot
  • Named Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week

NFHCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week

 

Maddy Murphy, No. 1 University of Iowa, 5Yr., Forward (Riana, Tasmania)

  • Registered five points to lead the top-ranked Hawkeyes to conference wins over No. 5 Rutgers University and No. 8 University of Maryland
  • Scored the game-winner in the 2-1 win against the Scarlet Knights on Friday
  • Added another game-winning goal and an assist against the Terrapins on Sunday
  • Sunday’s road win in College Park marked the first in program history and extended the Hawkeye’s win streak against top-seven ranked opponents to five consecutive games
  • Named Big Ten Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week
  • This is Murphy’s second NFHCA Offensive Player of the Week honor this season

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is a nonprofit organization serving field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the United States. The mission of the organization is to stimulate the professional development of coaching leadership within the sport of field hockey. The NFHCA strives to cultivate and recognize the professional contributions of its membership and to foster and promote the growth of the sport. The NFHCA is responsible for providing a recognizable presence and voice in regard to legislation affecting the sport as well as interscholastic and intercollegiate programs.
